Expanding access to intelligence while preserving agency, control and the freedom to inquire.
Concertato's principles are intended to guide how we research, collaborate and commercialise as the organisation grows.
Purpose
Concertato exists to expand access to artificial intelligence, advance independent research and help people and organisations use AI to extend what they can understand, create and achieve.
We believe AI should broaden human capability rather than concentrate it. Our aim is to contribute to a research environment in Western Australia where people from different disciplines, industries and backgrounds can participate in the development and practical use of AI.
Principles
- 01
Access to capability
AI can place knowledge and capability within reach of people who previously lacked the resources, expertise or institutional access to pursue it. We want the benefits of that shift to be broadly available.
- 02
Human capability and agency
AI should extend people's ability to learn, reason, create and make decisions. The objective is not simply to automate people out of processes, but to increase what individuals and organisations are capable of doing.
- 03
Responsible access and safety
Powerful technology creates genuine risks. Safety, security and appropriate controls matter. Broad understanding and diverse participation also strengthen society's ability to identify harms, improve systems and develop beneficial uses.
- 04
Data should serve its owner
Individuals and organisations should retain meaningful control over their data and how value is derived from it. Consent, privacy, security and transparency should be designed into systems rather than treated as afterthoughts.
- 05
Independent and sovereign capability
Researchers, organisations and communities should be able to develop and use AI without unnecessarily surrendering control of their data, intellectual property or decision-making.
- 06
Collaboration without appropriation
Complex problems benefit from many minds and many disciplines. Collaboration works best where the origin and ownership of ideas are respected and people can share them in a safe environment.
- 07
Research without artificial boundaries
Our initial research focus includes language models and specialised AI, but our interests extend to any computational approach that may improve our understanding or application of intelligence.
- 08
Local capability, global outlook
Concertato is based in Western Australia but intends to participate in a global research environment. We want to help attract people, capability and collaboration to WA while contributing useful work beyond it.
- 09
Commercial success should support research
Commercial outcomes can fund and accelerate research, but they should not become the sole measure of which questions are worth pursuing.
What could we explore together?
We welcome conversations with researchers, industry and people with deep domain expertise.
